Kiersten Kern started Red Opal Designs in early 2003. Kiersten has been a veterinary technician for over 17 years and has always had a love for animals. Over the years, she has worked with people and their pets, and has come to understand how much pets bring to people’s lives through the human-animal bond. Because of this experience, she wanted to find another way to help strengthen that bond, and so Red Opal Designs was created.

Kiersten has many pets, including Pico who is her Chihuahua companion. Pico loves wearing his necklaces and loves to pose for pictures, and he rigorously tests each necklace style as only a feisty Chihuahua can.

Kiersten also makes jewelry for humans. (Click here to see styles for you!)

She can make any of these styles into a custom necklace or a bracelet for you to match your best friend. Please contact us through e-mail with any of your requests.

How do I determine my dog's size?
To choose the best size for your dog, measure loosely around your dog’s neck. Another way is to measure your dog’s collar and add 1”-2”. Here is a rough guide for some of the more common breeds:
8”-10” Toy breeds
11”-12” Chihuahua, Yorkie
14”-16” Bishon, Westie, Schnauzer, Pug, Beagle
18”-20” Irish Setter, Golden Retriever, Lab, Greyhound
22” Rottweiler, Large Labs,
Over 23” Great Dane, St. Bernard

How are the necklaces made?
All jewelry is hand strung with strong jewelry wire and has sturdy clasps. Each piece is individually made for your order and may take up to 10 days to complete. Due to the nature of glass beads and semi-precious stones, all styles may vary in color and shape.

Please remember that jewelry is only to be worn as fun. Never attach a leash to your dog’s necklace. Do not allow you dog to wear their necklace unattended.
